When walking through Central Park, Manhattan’s green heart, towards the West side (between 81st and 89th street) a plaque reveals the existence of Seneca Village, established in 1825. The plaque depicts the location of the first stable Black community in Manhattan, with African American property owners, both individuals and members of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
